Police arrest thief, recover gold, other things worth Rs 34 lakh | KNO

Srinagar, July 06 (KNO) : Srinagar police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a thief who had stolen Rs 34 lacs from the six government quarters at different locations in Srinagar. According to KNO Correspondent, Police said that the stolen gold ornaments were also recovered along with the foreign currency notes and laptops. Police added that a jeweler from Hari Singh Hugh Street was also arrested for buying the stolen ornaments, who he said has been released on bail issued by the court. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr Haseeb Mughal while addressing media persons said that Bilal Ahmad resident of Pulwama district presently residing at Gousia Colony Khanyar was arrested by police. “Bilal has managed to loot the ornaments from six quarters as he got easy access to enter into the house due to his profession. Bilal was working as a middle man and was knowledgeable of the place where the ornaments and keys were kept by the families,” SSP said. He added that the complaints about the burglary were registered at four Police Stations including Shaheed Gunj, Shergadi, Parimpora and Saddar, stating that Rs 19 lakhs jewelry has been recovered while as the thief had converted the gold worth Rs 15 lakh in his account, which has been freeze accordingly. SSP appealed jewelers not to buy the gold without proper procedure, besides appealing people to remain vigilant while allowing anyone to enter in their homes.(KNO)
